Obituary of Lois H. Kirkendall

KIRKENDALL, Lois Hammond Age 90 and longtime resident of Sunset Dr. in Horseheads passed away peacefully on Wed. Nov. 27, 2013. Lois was born Nov. 1, 1923 in Paterson, NJ to Daniel Stanton Hammond III and Mary (Davison) Hammond. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert V. (Kirk) Kirkendall in 1980 and is survived by her daughter and sons, Mary E. (Thomas S.) Bagley of Chicago, IL, William H (Mary T.) Kirkendall of Horseheads, Robert H. Kirkendall of Horseheads, Grandchildren, Aimee L. and Christopher W. Kirkendall; Denise A. Kirkendall and Danielle M. (Darren) Connell; Great grandchildren, Aubryonna Kirkendall and Devin Connell. Several close and caring friends including dear friend and companion Fred Swank. Lois was a 1946 graduate of Elmira College Phi Beta Kappa and later earned a Masters degree from Syracuse University. Lois and her husband Kirk were longtime employees of the Horseheads Central School District. Kirk was a longtime athletic coach and Lois a career librarian. Lois was also a long standing member of The First Presbyterian Church in Horseheads. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Daniel Stanton Hammond IV and Eugene Hammond. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St., Horseheads on Friday Dec. 6, 2013 from 2-4:00 pm. Her service will be celebrated there at the funeral home at the conclusion of calling hours at 4:00 pm. The Rev. Jonathan Knight officiating.
