Obituary of Betty Jane Smith

SMITH, Betty Jane age 86 of Ridge Rd. Horseheads, NY, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, Mar. 25, 2010. Betty was born in Elmira, NY, on April 25, 1923 to the late Lloyd and Esther (Stewart) Wheeler. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Herrick “Smitty” Smith; nephew, Timothy (Gale) Wheeler of Richmond, VA; God-daughter, Ronalee (John) DeMarchis of Big Flats, NY; and many friends and neighbors. Betty was also predeceased by her brother, Stewart Wheeler. She was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy and a nursing school graduate of Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY. She was a nurse for Foster House Medical Affiliates for over 36 years. Betty was also a longtime member of North Presbyterian Church in Elmira, NY. Family and friends are TENTATIVLY invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads, NY, on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from 2-3:00 pm. Her service will follow there at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Gary Chorpenning officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of her family.
