Obituary of John D. Mashanic

John D. Mashanic John D. Mashanic, age 79, of Horseheads, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2014, at Corning Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare. John was predeceased by wife, Donna Bartkowski Mashanic in 2004; parents, George and Marion Pfieffer Mashanic; brothers, Robert, Charles, and Joseph Mashanic; sisters, Jean Mourhess, Patricia Donahue and Kathryn Murphy. John is survived by brother, George (Bud) and Barbara Mashanic of Elmira Heights, NY; sisters-in-law, Margaret Mashanic of Corning, NY and Kathy Mashanic of Georgia; Margaret Estes and Dorothy (Tony) Sgro, all of Elmira; Gloria (William) Wright of Lawrenceville, PA; brother-in-law, Raymond (Georgette) Bartkowski of Elmira; several nieces and nephews; close friends, neighbors and caregivers, Jesse and Betsy Thrower. John graduated from Southside High School, was a U. S. Navy veteran and retired from the United States Postal Service. He was a lifetime member of the Horseheads Elks Club. John was also past president and a lifetime member of the Elmira Beagle Club and a member of the NYS Beagling Hall of Fame. Family and friends may call at the Barber Funeral Home, Inc., 413 S. Main St. on Wednesday, July 30th from 5-7PM with the funeral service following at 7PM. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Pine Valley Cemetery.
