Obituary of Helen R. Loomis

LOOMIS, Helen R. Age 86 of Elmira and formerly of Cayuta went home to be with her Lord surrounded by her loving family on Sept. 6, 2010. She was born Jan. 12, 1924 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter to Walter Murdock and Elsie Smith. Helen was raised by Sara and Loring Shelhamer. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 47 years, Harold in 1993 and grandson, Dana Goodwin in 2001, infant son, James Robert Loomis in 1962, and son-in-law, Robert Wilcox Jr. in 1997. She is survived by her sons and daughters, David (Lillian) Loomis of Elmira Heights, NY, Russ (Kathy) Loomis of Claymont, DE, Barbara (Rocky) French of Elmira, NY, Patti (Toby) Wyse of Conklin, NY, Sue Goodwin of Elmira, NY, and with whom Helen resided, Shari (Dan Hunt) Wilcox of Elmira, NY; Grandchildren, Todd (Lisa) Loomis, David (Erica) Loomis, Bryan (Jamie) French, Brett (Kelli) French, Brandon French, Cali French, Kristi(Clifton) Curry, Katie (Brad) Almond, Dave Loomis, Matt Wyse, Josh Wyse, Tim Wyse, Darryl (Sara) Goodwin, Stefanie Goodwin, and Sami Hunt; 16 great grandchildren; Several nieces and nephews. Helen was a member of the Horseheads First Baptist Church. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She also found great companionship with her pets. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Thursday Sept. 9, 2010 from 6-8:00 pm. Friends are further invited to call at the Horseheads First Baptist Church 2293 Grand Central Ave. Horseheads on Fri Sept. 10, 2010 from 10-11:00 am where her service will follow in church at 11:00 am with Pastor Robert Finch and her son, Pastor Russ Loomis officiating. Graveside committal service will follow in Woodlawn National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Horseheads Christian School, 2293 Grand Central Ave. Horseheads NY 14845.
