Obituary of James L. "Jim" Coughlin
COUGHLIN, James L. “Jim”
Age 88 of Horseheads, NY. He was born June 10, 1930 in Syracuse, NY, son of the late Gerald and Kathleen (Cook) Coughlin and passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his loving wife Joyce A. Coughlin, grandson Dale Wade III, and stepson Raymond A. Grover. He is survived by his children, Larry Coughlin, Penny Sims, Barbara (Daniel) Wasneechak, Terri Krieger, Steven Coughlin, and Randall (Nancy) Combs; daughter-in-law Patty Coughlin; sister Margaret (John) Redder; many dear grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with a host of dear friends.
Jim served in the Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 . He retired from the NYS Dept. of Corrections after working as a Corrections Officer in the Elmira Correctional Facility for 25 years from 1956-1981. He continued work with St. Joseph’s Hospital as a Security Guard.
Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 South Main St., Horseheads on Thursday, August 9th, 2018 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. A memorial service for Jim will be held there at 12:30 pm. Committal prayer and interment with military honors will follow in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira. Those wishing may make a donation in Jim’s name to Alzheimer’s research nationally or locally through 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer's.
