Obituary of Grace Lauretta Gunderman

Grace Lauretta (Gilmour) Gunderman, 93, of Horseheads passed away peacefully on December 20, 2020 at Bethany Manor from Covid-19. Grace is survived by son Mark Gunderman and his wife Debby of Livermore, CA, daughter Lori Eftink (Gunderman) and her husband Tim of Beaver Dams, NY, and daughter-in-law Deborah Gunderman Wood of Elmira, NY, as well as grandchildren, Dawn Coletta of NY, Tim (Brooke) Gunderman of CA, (and their three children, Hayley, Luke and Adalynn), Jeremy Gunderman of CO, Jason (Sara) Gunderman of OR, and Calli Gunderman of CO. Grace was also predeceased by her husband George Gunderman, and her son William Gunderman. Grace was born on August 25, 1927 to George and Gertrude Gilmour and had 2 brothers and 3 sisters (all predeceased). Grace worked at the Eclipse before marrying George on September 1, 1946. They settled in Horseheads and built their own home. Grace was a homemaker and mother before returning to the work force as a teacher’s aide at Horseheads High School for over 15 years. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many leadership callings including Primary President, Relief Society President and early-morning Seminary instructor. After retirement, Grace became a weekly worker at the Palmyra, NY temple. Grace loved to sing and listen to music. She enjoyed tracing her genealogy, and was renowned for her pies and her poignant, spiritual poetry. Grace was strong and fierce but that was balanced by her kindness and sweet spirit. She dedicated her life to the service and education of others. She was a light in the darkness and will be sorely missed by her friends and family. A celebration of Grace’s life will be scheduled at a future date when friends and family can gather safely. She will be interred in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads.
