Obituary of Patricia S. Recard

RECARD, Patricia S. Age 88 of Horseheads, NY. She was born September 28, 1932 in Canton, PA, daughter of the late Albert and Marion (Carl) Spaulding and passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020 at the Taylor Health Center in Bath, NY. She was predeceased by her second husband Richard in 2010 as well as her granddaughter Jennifer. She is survived by her children; son Jeffrey and Diana Merritt of Horseheads, daughter Anita and Bill Daw of San Tan Valley, AZ, daughter Julie and William White of Knoxville, TN, son Steven Merritt of Geneseo, NY; step children Richard Recard, Jr. of Lewisville, CO, Kathleen and Bob Ervay of Horseheads, Nancy Hough of Waverly, Steven and Jennifer Recard of Honeoye Falls, NY; sister Phyllis (Russell) Crane of Troy, PA; grandchildren Kenneth (Annie), Kristen (Matt), William, Rachael, Janae, Jonathan, Teresa Smith, Brian Ervay, Kief Hough, Christina Carter, Christopher Hough, Katherine Recard, and David Recard; with 18 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. Pat retired from Swan Sons, Morse Agency. She was a member of the Horseheads 1st Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and a preschool teacher. Pat was a devoted mother and wife who loved to garden, cook, bake, read, and go out for a night of bowling, bicycling, walking, and exercise. She also enjoyed dance nights, to the likes of Lawrence Welk and the Big Bands. She was a teacher at heart; she poured her talent and love into the church’s nursery School for many years. When life’s twists and turns required it, she boldly returned to school for her Bachelor’s Degree after which she worked for many years with Swan Sons Insurance. Her keen sense of hearing was well known; she would often ‘catch’ the kids in the midst of mischief. Pat was loyal to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, attending Bible Study up until the Corona Virus pandemic shutdown the community. She had her faith put to the test with conflicts she faced, which ultimately led her to the love of her life, Richard Recard. When Pat married Richard in 1990, she accepted her extended family with open arms. Even when dementia stole some of her memories, Pat maintained her humble attitude and self-deprecating humor. A fiercely loyal mother and friend, she did not like to be the attention in the room, but her presence was always recognized as being just, kind, and fair. She is and will be greatly missed. Private services will be held with her family at the Horseheads 1st First Presbyterian Church. She will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery.
