Obituary of Harold R. Reed

On Thursday, January 21, 2021, Harold R. Reed, age 92 of Horseheads, NY passed away peacefully at his home. Harold was born December 22, 1928 in Muncy Pennsylvania, to Clay and Catharine Reed. He received his undergraduate degree from Bucknell University and a Masters in Education from Penn State University. Harold was a teacher and elementary school principal in New York State for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He began his career in Garfield Heights Ohio where he met his future wife and love of his life, Dorisanne who taught in the classroom next to him. They were wed in 1955 and enjoyed 63 happily married years together. Harold was predeceased by his wife, Dorisanne, his mother and father, and two brothers, Donald and Arnold. He is survived by his brother Eldon (Carol) and daughter, Paula Nancarrow of Minneapolis, MN, son Scott (Mary Jo) of Allegany, NY, daughter Stacey (Victor) Gudonis of Rochester, NY, and daughter Whitney (Paul) Trifoso of Corning, NY as well as grandchildren Maggie, Aidan (Renee) Nancarrow, Hillary, John (Deven) , Katherine and Bradley Reed, Matthew, Sarah and Christopher Trifoso and twin great grandchildren Theodore and Henry Reed. Harold was happiest when spending time with his family who brought him tremendous pride. He was an avid Penn State football and St. Bonaventure basketball fan. Harold was passionate about the care and appearance of his yard and found great peace in riding his lawn mower. He loved and was loved by his in-home health care aides in recent years, including K.C., Doreen, Aleisha, Krystal and Dee Dee and his CareFirst nurse, Suzanne. Harold was a member of St. Mary Our Mother Catholic Church in Horseheads, NY. Due to COVID restrictions there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, January 25, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Our Mother Church, Fr. Christopher Linsler, celebrant.
