Obituary of Glenn R. Hunsinger Sr.

HUNSINGER, Glenn R. Sr. Age 77 of MacIntosh Lane in Bethany Village and formerly of Chambers Rd. in Horseheads went to be with the Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 8, 2012. Glenn was born December 27, 1934 in Athens, PA, to Clyde and Beulah (Bennett) Hunsinger. In addition to his parents, Glenn was predeceased by his daughter, Pamela Kish, brother, Clyde Hunsinger and sister, Doris Howe. Glenn married Mary Romagnoli in Portsmouth, NH, Dec. 28, 1958. He was stationed at the Groton, CT Naval Submarine Base where he served as submariner and Chief Hospital Corpsman for 13 years. He completed his 26 year Naval Career as the Lead Chief and Medical Officer for the Naval Reserve Center in Elmira. Glenn attended Corning Community College receiving his degree in Human Service. He then went to work for the US Post Office in Elmira. With all his employment, Glenn truly enjoyed his part-time work over the years assisting many area funeral homes as a Funeral Attendant, where his friendly smile, kind words and compassion comforted countless families. Glenn is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Hunsinger; Their sons, David (Tiffany) Fogg of Charlotte, NC and Glenn Jr. (Sharon) Hunsinger of Virginia Beach, VA; Son-in-law, Paul Kish of Corning, NY; Brother-in-law, LaVern Howe of Milan, PA; Eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews. Glenn was referred to as “Doc”, “Chief”, “Dad”, “Uncle Glenn”, but his most beloved name was “Grandpy”. Glenn and Mary enjoyed years traveling with their RV and spending time with friends. Most of all Glenn loved spending time with his family, camping, poolside, or backyard barbequing. Glenn will be forever remembered by his family and friends. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads on Thursday, July 12, 2012 from 2-4:00 p.m. and again from 6-8:00 p.m. His service will be celebrated at the funeral home on Friday, July 13, 2012 at 10:00 am with the Rev. Mary Ann Bernard officiating. Burial with full military honors accorded will follow in Bath National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may also remember Glenn with memorials to the AOMC Dialysis Unit, 600 Roe Ave., Elmira, NY 14905.
